THE NEW YEAR IS ALMOST HERE, DO YOU HAVE A PLAN?

Are you an intention-setting or a resolution type of person?

Personally, I prefer intentions, and I have been looking at setting my own as I approach the new year. I saw one contributor write that we shouldn't wait until New Year's Eve to set an intention but start today so let's get started.

Setting intentions can be a more effective way to make positive changes in your life than making resolutions because it focuses on the process rather than the outcome. When you set an intention, you are committing to a specific mindset or attitude that will guide your actions. This can be more empowering and motivating than making a resolution, which often involves simply trying to achieve a specific goal or outcome.

For example, if you set the intention to be more mindful in your daily life, you might focus on being present in the moment, paying attention to your thoughts and feelings, and making choices that align with your values. This approach can help you develop a sense of purpose and meaning in your life, which can be more sustainable and rewarding than simply trying to achieve a specific goal.

Additionally, setting an intention allows you to be more flexible and adaptable in your approach to achieving your goals. If you encounter obstacles or setbacks, you can use your intention as a guiding principle to help you find alternative solutions or approaches. This can be more effective than simply trying to stick to a rigid plan or resolution, which may not take into account the complexity and unpredictability of real life.

How to set an intention

Setting an intention means focusing on a specific goal or purpose and making a conscious effort to align your actions and thoughts with that goal. Here are some steps you can follow to set an intention:

  1. Identify your goal: What do you want to achieve or experience? Be specific and focus on one specific aspect of your life or a particular situation.

  2. Make it positive: Formulate your intention in a positive way, focusing on what you want to create or experience rather than what you want to avoid or eliminate.

  3. Write it down: Write your intention down on paper or in a journal. This helps to clarify and reinforce your goal.

  4. Reflect on it: Take a few moments to reflect on your intention and why it is important to you. This can help you to feel more motivated and committed to achieving it.

  5. Repeat your intention: Repeat your intention to yourself daily, either out loud or in your head. This helps to keep it at the forefront of your mind and helps you to stay focused on your goal.

  6. Take action: Take small, consistent actions that align with your intention. This helps to bring your intention to life and brings you closer to achieving your goal.

Remember, setting an intention is not a one-time activity. It is an ongoing process that requires commitment and consistent effort to achieve your desired results.

Lastly, intentions or plans aren't set in stone, so don't be upset if things don't go the way you hoped they would. Health goals may start slowly and gain momentum as you stick with them, just don't give up.

I wish you and your family, all of God's best for 2023!
